The Kitchen Engine Brief History

Eric.jpg

From the time that Eric Frickle was 16 years old and entered the work place, he always wanted to own his own business. That dream led him to become the youngest contract driver ever to own route rights for FedEx in Spokane, Washington. He worked diligently and built his business with urgency and great customer service. However, the dream was still there to be part of a family owned business, one that could really put his innate entrepreneurial and creative skills to good use.

In late 2002, Spokane lost a great kitchen gourmet store call the Copper Colander, located in the Historic Flour Mill. Dan, Eric's father had been the owner's independent accountant for several years and was as sad as anyone to see Arlyne Nadvornick retire and liquadate her inventory. The space in the Flour Mill remained unoccupied and each time Dan visited other clients in the building a nagging feeling just wouldn't die...open another kitchen store in the same location.

In November 2005, Dan bumped into an old high school friend in the Flour Mill of all places. In talking Dan discovered that he and his wife were opening a boutique chocolate shop there to be call The Chocolate Apothecary. At that point the idea of re-opening a kitchen store and Eric's dream of a family owned business collided.  Many exciting conversations about the concept took place and Eric decided to put his FedEx business on the market for sale. Eric and his wife Nicole, Dan, Vicky and Emily, Dan's wife and daughter forged ahead with projections, research, lease negotiations, buying trips and a lot of consultation with Arlyne Nadvornick.  Eric found a buyer for his business and an intense spring and summer erupted with a myriad of details to attend to.

On August 3, 2006 The Kitchen Engine quietly opened its doors and a new gourmet kitchen store was launched. The public response has been overwhelmingly positive!  The whole Frickle family expresses deep appreciation to our customers.

Our goal is to provide the kitchen and cooking enthusiast with a wide range of top quality cookware, along with affordability and lots of new and fun gadgets. Great customer service will always be our top goal.
